Global Vacuum Insulated Glass Market to Reach Around US $7 Billion by 2026

The global vacuum-insulated glass market for building and construction was valued at more than US $4.5 billion in 2017 and is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of more than 4 percent from 2018 to 2026, according to a new report published by Transparency Market Research, “Vacuum Insulated Glass for Building & Construction - Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends, and Forecast, 2018-2026.”
Expansion in the global vacuum-insulated glass market for building and construction is driven by the rise in demand for energy-efficient buildings, popularly known as green buildings. In terms of volume, the vacuum-insulated glass market for building and construction in Asia Pacific is expected to expand at a CAGR of more than 5 percent during the forecast period. Implementation of strict government regulations on carbon emissions is likely to propel the vacuum-insulated glass market for building and construction. Heating and cooling of buildings requires large amount of energy. The usage of insulated glass units is expected to significantly reduce the heating and cooling consumption and thereby lower CO2 emissions associated with it.
LandVac Fully Tempered Vacuum Insulated Glass excels in thermal insulation, with a U-value as low as 0.4 W/(m2•K), certified by the international  authoritative testing organization Ift. Since LandVac’vacuum chamber eliminates any gas heat transfer, the thermal insulation performance of LandVac is 2 to 4 times better than insulated glass and 6 to 10 times than single pane glass.

What are the requirements when winding kevlar rope onto the glass tempering furnace?

Use 12mmX3.5mm kevlar rope to wind the glass tempering furnace rollers according to the left and right rotating directions with the pitch distance of 40mm. The rotating direction of the last roller rope at the end of glass exit (close to the tempering furnace unloading table) is set to the right to unify the winding standard.

China has Made a Significant Breakthrough in Infrared Glass Development Technology

Calcium aluminate infrared glass is the key material for the new generation aperture photoelectric detection system, featured by multispectral transmission, high transmittance, high hardness, high working temperature and stable physical and chemical performances, and making it an ideal material for manufacturing infrared transmitting windows. Currently, only a few countries including Russia and the US have grasped the complete set of manufacturing technology of large-size multispectral transmitting calcium aluminate infrared glass and have achieved engineering application, e.g. Russia's airborne OEPS-27 photoelectric radar radome, and the American radome of missile and airborne infrared nacelle, etc. In China, infrared detection most uses crystalline material, lacking systematic research of infrared glass; and thus there is still a blank in the aspects of calcium aluminate glass composition, melting technology, molding technology, and other related manufacturing technologies.

Large-size calcium aluminate infrared glass is a large-aperture multispectral transmitting infrared material with sound performance. It is not only the required photoelectric parts for multiple types of airplane in China, but also has significance for applying in the detection system of missile, naval vessel, armored vehicle, and other equipment. The manufacturing technology of large-size calcium aluminate infrared glass is one of the cutting-edge technologies in the infrared glass field, with high technology difficulty; in addition, infrared glass structure contains oxhydryl (OH-), which will greatly affect the transmitting infrared performance of the glass. How to remove oxhydryl (OH-) contained in the material and in the melting process is a technical problem that has long been bothering the domestication of calcium aluminate infrared glass. Therefore, China has relied on the export of relevant products for a long time, which has made a serious impact on the application of large-size infrared glass in China's advanced photoelectric detection system and defense models.

Based on the above situation, China Building Materials Academy has started research on the "complete manufacturing technology of multispectral transmitting calcium aluminate infrared glass", and has achieved a number of technical innovations in the fields of "irregular infrared glass product forming technology and equipment", "optical processing technology and equipment of large-size and irregular infrared glass" and others, providing a new process for the manufacturing of high-performance infrared glass.

Canadian New Discovery – Micro-Crack Technology Can Improve Glass Strength by 200 Times

Glass with cracks is breakable, as a common sense, which is deeply imprinted in people's minds. However, Canadian scientists proposed a new view that, if we use micro-cracks system to do directional damage to glass, this directional damage causes edge cracks close to each other, but would not further break glass.

Canadian scientists recently suggested that the micro crack system should be used to make glass strength increase by about 200 times. To test this conjecture, scientists first used laser system to punch holes of a few microns in diameter on ordinary glass, and fill holes with polyurethane. They said that cracks on ordinary glass can break glass, but this crack will produce the guiding role of micro-cracks, thereby enhancing the strength of glass up to about 200 times.

The researchers also pointed out that this directional damage makes the cracks edge close to each other, but would not further break glass. Scientists explained that this synthetic approach is similar to the composition of animal teeth and shells. In addition, although the micro-cracks on glass can be clearly seen, size of the cracks can be reduced.

In February 2013, physicist of Yale University has also built plastic theory of unbreakable soft glass, and explained that the mechanical properties of the material are determined by the cooling rate.

US Developed the Bio-Glass to Measure Human Pressure

Intelligent glass would be a trend in the future development of glass. Not long ago, Corning developed a smart glass that can detect DNA. Recently, the United States has also developed a bio-glass, which can detect human pressure with related equipment.

It is reported by technology website Ubergizmo that, at present, the application of smart glass is yet to be developed, but recently there have been breakthroughs. Georgia Institute of Technology and Massachusetts Institute of Technology co-developed a Bio-glass, which can measure people’s pressure value just with Android platform application and Google glasses.

Modern people live in an environment full of all kinds of pressure and face a variety of work and piles of files all day long, but few pay attention to their pressure and take appropriate ways to reduce pressure. In theory, as long as people wear the glasses made of this glass, people will be able to measure their pressure, and determine when they need a breakdown. The supporting application can capture subtle body movements based on accelerometer on Google glasses, gyroscopes and front camera, which calculates the wearer's heartbeat and breathing rate.

South Korea Develops an Antibacterial Zinc Nano Glass Panel

It is reported that the research team, led by Prof. Yun Sun-gil at Korean Chungnam National University recently declared that they have developed a new antibacterial glass panel. Through tests with Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, the researchers find that the antibacterial effect of zinc nanoparticles comes up to over 99.99%, which equals to that of silver nanoparticles but with a lower price and a good light transmission, and therefore they can be used to make glass panels. The research findings are published in Scientific Reports, a sister network journal of Nature.

The researchers also put some titanium nanoparticles between zinc nanoparticles and glass panels to enhance their adhesion. The test result shows that this new technology makes the adhesion of zinc nanoparticles not easily affected by touches, and at the same time maintain 90% of its transparency. Prof. Yun Sun-gil points out that this new technology is expected to be applied in mass production in 2 to 3 years.

As the touch screens of smart phones may be tainted with a variety of bacteria for frequent contacts with hands and faces, their transparent panels are generally coated with silver, copper and zinc nanoparticles to resist these bacteria. Silver nanoparticles are commonly used for their good antibacterial effect, but their cohesion is low and they are apt to lose their cohesion with frequent touches.
